Richard Olpin - Project 52/2016

Ooh look, a handy place to keep personal projects without them getting lost in the main photo thread..

Richard Olpin - Project 52/2016

1/52 'Things On My Desk'

Image1/52 Things On My Desk by Richard Olpin, on Flickr

As the whole point of Project 52 is to get people shooting more, and trying different things, I'm keen to encourage everyone to get rid of all the excuses. Stop worrying about having all the fancy gear. So what if it's cold and wet out. Even if you just get your phone out and shoot something silly on your desk you can still work your mental muscle..

The best camera is the one in your hand!

This one was shot, processed & uploaded in <5mins on a mobile phone. Just do it!

The most important thing is to do *something*. Doesn't have to be fancy kit, just an idea.

Obviously I did this one specifically to prove a point and inspire others to think outside the box a bit, but saying that, some of my favourite photos are ones I took on my phone or a compact camera..

Planning to go back and to a proper shoot for this in the future, but I thought I'd do a very quick 5 minute special effects test on a shot I did whilst out location scouting with Amy..

The potential is definitely there, now we just need to gather the rest of the props to do it properly.

5/52 - Smoke Trails

Postby Richard Olpin » Thu Feb 11, 2016 3:33 pm

Bit behind on posting I'm still playing catch-up so here's a little something I did yesterday when Helen was here for a Masterclass day. We had a bit of fun as I showed her how I do the smoke-trails images.

We only spent 10 minutes or so playing with them as an example, and this was just a 2 minute edit to show hoe I do it, but I rather like what 'appeared' at the top of the image though, eh. Spooky!

I had some clients for a training day today, and showed them a few examples of my less conventional techniques. Quite liked this one.

At this point I'm actually shooting through three different railings..

For those who are interested, I'll be running a workshop with Tink as the model in a few weeks time. Covering all kinds of fashion and portrait techniques including this kind of thing ;-)

7/52 - Fashion (Natural Light)

Another of Chloe, also from a workshop I taught today, but totally different approach so it warrants a different topic.
